WOMEN'S CLINIC AND OUTREACH

SPRHC is looked at as leader in creative and innovative programs. No where is it more evident than at the Outreach offices. The Community Outreach and Women’s Services programs are receiving state-wide recognition for providing a number of quality services. The renovation of a vintage building in the downtown area is the hub for these services. It has become the home for not only the Outreach and Women’s Services programs, but also houses Advocates Against Domestic Assault, Nurse Family Partnership (in conjunction with Pueblo Community Health Center ), Sangre de Cristo Hospice, VoiceCare emergency response system, and Huerfano County Youth Services. In addition there are a number of specialty physicians that use clinical space, including an oncologist, neurologist, allergist, and gynecologist.

The Outreach Clinic and Women’s Services is also unique within the state by offering a number of services that are traditionally offered through other venues, but that had been lacking in poverty stricken Huerfano County. These include a state Family Planning Clinic, the Colorado Women’s Cancer Control Initiative, STD and HIV testing, as well as prescription drug assistance. An important new programs is a CDPHE Cancer, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary Disease grant providing basic health screenings for income eligible 40 to 64 year olds. The Outreach offices are directly involved in programs as diverse as Colorado Trust Health Care Professions Program working with youth on entry level positions into health care, the Bully Prevention program (not only for youth, but providing education for adults about “bullying in the workplace”). Caring for Colorado is funding an Informed Health Decisions program that we are doing innovative pregnancy prevention build around increasing self-esteem and personal awareness and power for 11 to 14 year old young women. We also work diligently in identifying health needs in our community and look for innovative ways to meet them. A recent success is collaboration with the KIND (Kids in Need of Dentistry) to bring dental care to our youth.
